Labradorite is a member of the feldspar family. It was first discovered in the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, which accounts for how the crystal got its name. Currently, this gemstone is also found in Australia, Finland, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Newfoundland, Norway, Russia, and the United States.

Labradorite ranges in color from clear to gray-green, black, or grayish-white. However, in the light, labradorite reflects iridescent flashes of blue, gold, pale green, or coppery red. This beautiful iridescent quality is known as labradorescence. Labradorescence can be seen most clearly when the stone is in its raw form.

Other, more rare varieties of labradorite include spectrolite (which displays the entire color spectrum in its labradorescence) and golden labradorite (which has a transparent gold or champagne color).

Metaphysical Benefits

Because of labradorite’s ability to reflect the light of so many colors, opinion varies as to which chakra this crystal is associated with.

Some consider labradorite to be a root chakra stone, while others say that it is linked mostly to the throat chakra. Some link this crystal to the three upper chakras (that is, the throat, third eye, and crown chakras), and some say that labradorite can help unite the energies of  all the chakras.

One thing is agreed upon, however: Labradorite has a magical, powerful energy.

Labradorite has been called the  stone of awakening and transformation. It is perfect for those who want to boost their spiritual growth. It brings out our natural clairvoyant and telepathic abilities. It helps strengthen the will and boosts our sense of self worth. It is also said to help us communicate with higher guides and to recall past lives.

Labradorite can also help us think more clearly and positively, thus gaining new perspectives on tackling problems. As a protective stone, it strengthens the aura against outside negativity and difficult emotions, such as shame, guilt, and depression.

As for the magic, labradorite is said to make good things happen by increasing serendipity and synchronicity. In other words, being at the right place at the right time is more likely with the help of the labradorite vibration.

This crystal is also said to increase the sensitivity of the hands. This is particularly helpful for those who use their hands to heal, including but not limited to Reiki practitioners and physiotherapists.

Again, although sources differ, labradorite has been linked to the zodiac signs of Cancer, Aquarius , Sagittarius, Scorpio, and Leo.
